After round three played at The Grange Golf Club, Glenelg maintains its place at the top of the Simpson Cup table defeating the home side 4-3 in a close contest. Blackwood also remains undefeated downing Royal Adelaide 5-2, Kooyonga recorded its second win 4-3 over Tea Tree Gully and Southern moves from the foot of the ladder into sixth with a 4.5-2.5 voctory over The Vines.
In the first contest of the day, Glenelg secured a massive win defeating The Grange 4-3. Ben Hallam and Anthony Olsen both had wins maintaining their unbeaten start to the season, along with match play specialist Jackson Kalz who defeated Alex Hendrick 4&3 to bring up his third win in a row.
Winners for Grange were Mark Demasi 2up, Jack Thompson 2up and Liam Georgiadis 3&2, but Glenelg number one Lachlan Barker secured the vital fourth match for Glenelg defeating Justin Crowder 6&4.
In another close contest, Kooyonga defeated Tea Tree Gully 4-3 and moved up into third position.
It was a tense battle all day with Kooyonga securing early wins courtesy of Geoff Brennan 3&1 and Charles Shaw 3&2. Tea Tree Gully hit back with Jacin Cook 4&2 and Nick May 3&2 both winning to tie the contest.
After the Gullies Matt McMahon won 5&4 over Joe Hodgson and Kooyonga's Sam Inglis defeated Zak Amundson 2&1 the contest was squared once again.
It would come down to a battle between two of SA most experienced campaigners in Kooyonga Captain Heath Riches and Tea Tree Gully Co-Captain Chris Austin. Riches would prove too strong on the day winning the crucial match 4&3 to keep Kooyonga’s final chances well and truly alive.
Southern were celebrating Sunday night after recording their first Simpson Cup win, after defeating The Vines 4.5-2.5.
After the number six match between Chad Methven and Brendan Fisher was halved and Southern players Brad Altmann 1up, Jared Thoman 3&2 and Chris Burns 4&2 were all victorious Southern held a 3.2-2.5 advantage with the number one match still remaining.
Fleurieu member Adam Aldritt got the job done for Southern winning the crucial match 1up over Craig Rivett securing the outright win.
Blackwood is off to a flying start to the season winning for the third week in a row, this time over Royal Adelaide 5-2.
Blackwood’s middle order of Mathew Monsma 4&3, Daniel Wake 2&1 and Michael Munn 1up all won for the third straight week and when Riley Marshall joined the party winning 2&1 it was another victory to Blackwood.
Nick Wake continued his solid form winning for Blackwood at number one 2&1 over Will Arnold.
Next week’s round four matches are held at Fleurieu Golf Club with the host side Southern playing Kooyonga. In other matches, Blackwood face Grange, Glenelg take on Royal Adelaide and The Vines come up against Tea Tree Gully.
