Winners in round four of the Simpson Cup played at Fleurieu Golf Club were; Southern, The Grange, Glenelg and Tea Tree Gully. All teams have now registered a win with Glenelg remaining the only undefeated side at the top of the table after Blackwood suffered its first defeat of the season.
Four teams now sit on one win, making the fight to avoid relegation well and truly on.
In the first match of the day off the 1st tee, Southern secured a memorable win over defending champions Kooyonga 4 – 3.
Southern won the first three matches, courtesy of Simon Connelly 2&1, Brad Altmann 4&2, Jared Thoman 1up, before Charles Shaw won his match for Kooyonga 4&2 against Chad Methven.
Joe Hodgson and Heath Riches both won for Kooyonga in the top two position,s but it was all too late as Southern number three Chris Burns, had already picked up his third win of the season defeating Sam Inglis 3&2 to secure the tie for Southern.
The Grange hit form with a 6-1 win over Blackwood. Despite the one-sided score line it was a close contest with four matches going the distance.
Michael Coleman, Mark Demasi and Scott Webb all won 1up for The Grange, while Jack Thompson went 1down to Blackwood's Ben Winton.
Alex Hendrick and Justin Crowder were both winners for The Grange 2&1 and Colin Coleman registered a 4&3 victory over Matthew Monsma.
Glenelg continued on its winning way defeating Royal Adelaide 5-2. Winning comfortably were; Olsen 7&6, Kalz 3&1, Hayes 4&3, Earl 6&5 and Barker 3&2.
Matt Lawson 5&4 over Ben Hallam and Alex Pacifico 2&1 over Ben Layton secured what could be valuable matches for Blackwood, as we head towards the pointy end of the season.
Glenelg's win see's the side remain in the box seat to secure a top two finish, as they sit two wins clear of third, with a home game to come.
In a tight tussle, Tea Tree Gully secured its first win of the year defeating The Vines 4-3. A loss would have been disastrous for TTG, this win could now kick start their season.
After winning match seven, Scott Johnstone 2up and match six Jacin Cook 3&2, Gullies trailed soon after 3-2 as The Vines won positions three to five, through Brendan Fisher 1up, Matt Bell 2&1 and Corey Apthorpe 2&1.
After Sam Burton won a tight match 1up, Co-Captain Chris Austin closed the deal, winning 4&2 against a valiant Craig Rivett 4&2.
Matches recommence on Sunday 19th June at Tea Tree Gully following a bye for the Queen’s Birthday.
