Ladder leader Glenelg has secured its place in the Grand Final with a 5.5-1.5 win over second place Kooyonga, resulting in second position still being up for grabs with one round remaining in the minor round.
Other round six winners were The Grange, The Vines and home side Thaxted Park.
Glenelg continued its fine form winning its sixth match on the trot. Despite the 5.5-1.5 scoreline the first five matches of the day went the distance.
Winners for Glenelg were Michael Munn 1up, Josh Hayes 1up, Sam Earl 3&2, Lachlan Barker 2&1 while halved matches were between Anthony Olsen and Kyle Hayter (match six), Jackson Kalz and Daniel Speirs (match four) and Sam Burton and Joe Hodgson (match three).
Home side Thaxted Park scored its second win of the season and in doing so moved from seventh to fifth.
Andrew Munn 2up, James Coulson 2&1, Jake Munn 1up, Thomas Haxby 4&3 and Matthew Rolton 2&1 were all winners for Thaxted Park.
The Grange kept its final chances alive defeating Blackwood 5-2. Jamie Smith 1up, Liam Georgiadis 3&2, Andrew Nakone Jnr 5&3 and Matthew Lisk 5&4 all had wins while last rounds player of the week, Alex Hendrick halved with David Clough and Port Lincoln’s Jack Thompson finished square with Ben Tobin. Daniel Wake 3&2 was Blackwood’s sole winner.
In another close contest, The Vines kept its slim finals chance alive defeating Southern 5.5-1.5. Clayton Byrne won his fourth match of the season 4&2 over David Pateyjohns, while other winners for The Vines were Michael Bruggeman 1up, Matthew Bell 1up, Craig Rivett 4&2 and Alex Curtin 2&1.
Final Round Equation:
Next week’s round seven matches are held at Kooyonga with the host side coming up against Thaxted Park. A win will see Kooyonga claim second spot and a berth in the final against Glenelg. Despite the result Thaxted Park will likely finish fifth.
The Grange play Southern in the final round for the second year. Grange trail Kooyonga on the ladder by 4.5 matches so a 7-0 win to Grange and a 5-2 loss by Kooyonga would see Grange make the GF. Despite not being out of the relegation zone, Southern will likely finish sixth.
Glenelg play Tea Tree Gully and whilst already securing top spot they will be looking to finish the minor round undefeated. In fact Glenelg is undefeated in its past 14 contests having won 7 matches last year (including the final) and halving with Kooyonga during the minor round.
In the final match of the season The Vines play Blackwood. The Vines must win 7-0 and hope Kooyonga misread the tee times (and The Grange) in order to make it through to the final, however it is a possibility. The most likely scenario is The Vines win and finish the season fourth with four wins.
If Blackwood win they will likely jump Tea Tree Gully who will then be relegated. If Blackwood lose they will be in A2 next season.
