Rd 6 Pennant Wrap – Womens A1 Sanderson Cup

The Grange and Kooyonga will contest next weekend's Women’s A1 ‘Sanderson Cup’ Pennant Final after both teams showed impressive form throughout the minor rounds of the Golf SA Women's Pennant season.

Defending champions The Grange finished top of the table with five wins and a halve for the season ahead of Kooyonga with four wins from six matches.

Glenelg champions from 2012-2014, finished the season third with one win and two halves while Blackwood finished fourth halving with Glenelg in round three.

In a prelude to this week’s final, The Grange were too strong for Kooyonga in the last minor round, winning 4-1.

Winners for The Grange were Louise Glennon 6&5, Jean Foo 6&5, Caitlin Roberts 4&3 and Cassidy Evreniadis 5&4.

Kooyonga’s sole win was courtesy of number two player Hayley Hunt 2&1.

In the final match of the season Glenelg defeated Blackwood 4.5-0.5 to avoid bottom place and relegation.

Winners for Glenelg were Jill Hodge 5&4 (only defeated once this season), Matilda Wheare 4&2, Charley Jacobs 6&5 and Sarah Crocker 8&6, while Elysia Yap halved with Sally Graham at number one.

Glenelg never managed to gain momentum this season but will no doubt be back stronger in 2017, while Blackwood competed hard all year and in good spirit.

In next week's final hosted by Royal Adelaide, defending champions The Grange will be gunning for its 6th title and looking to replicate the 1984-85 seasons when they went back to back.

Kooyonga will be looking to claim its 37th title and first since victory in 2006. Fielding a much more experienced side than their opponents, they will start underdogs but they shouldn’t be discounted.

In addition to the final minor round 4-1 win to The Grange, when the sides met in round three, The Grange also triumphed 4.5-0.5.
