Golf is an exciting game played in pleasant surroundings that is enjoyed by people of all ages and ability. It’s also a fantastic platform for social engagement and an excellent way to meet new friends.
Every year many people, both young and old, discover the sport’s appeal and forge a connection to the game that lasts a lifetime.
These days, it’s easier than ever to get into golf, even if you've never played before. There is a well-structured network of clubs across the state that are happy to welcome new members and visitors alike. There’s also a network of coaches able to provide tuition and a growing number of programs on offer for individuals to learn the skills involved in playing the game.
Golf is a sport that reflects life’s fundamental values including honesty, integrity, self-respect, sportsmanship and consideration for others.
How do you get involved?
Step 1: Find a club
Over 360 golf clubs are affiliated with Golf NSW. They offer a range of programs and playing opportunities for beginners, social and amateur golfers. Find a club near you and ask about their on-course programs.
Step 2: Join a Program/Clinic
Ladies, get into Swing Fit –A world-first women’s only golf participation program that delivers golf instruction in a fun, creative, interactive and friendly environment. The emphasis on involvement and fun rather than technique sets this program apart from the others.
Swing Fit is suitable for beginners wanting to learn the basics of the game in a relaxed and welcoming environment, and current golfers who wish to get ‘fit for golf’. Swing Fit is designed for women of all ages and abilities, so why don’t you give it a try? Visit Women's Golf for more information.
MyGolf – MyGolf is a nation-wide junior introductory program to develop and promote participation in our game. The program is designed to introduce 5 to 12-year-olds to the sport and is a major driver of junior golf participation in Australia.
Supported by MyGolf ambassador Jason Day, the emphasis of the MyGolf program is to provide a fun, safe, accessible and satisfying introduction to golf for children by promoting skills development as well as the social aspect of the sport to them and their families. Visit the MyGolf website for more information.
Jack Newton Junior Golf – JNJG was established in 1986 to provide the sport of junior golf in NSW with a more coordinated and structured approach to junior development and participation across the state.
JNJG activities include tournaments, camps, clinics and schools programs. JNJG also assists clubs and regional areas with development of their junior programs. Visit the JNJG website for more information.
Golf for Seniors – Golf NSW in partnership with the Office of Sport have developed the Golf for Seniors – An Introduction to Golf program, to provide an introduction to the sport for senior citizens in our state. Its purpose is to introduce the basic skills of the game and provide an avenue for the elderly to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Visit the Golf for Seniors page for more information.
Step 3: Playing Opportunities
Golf clubs around NSW have membership offers tailored to the lifestyle needs and skill levels of all types of participants. Golf NSW also offers programs and opportunities for golfers looking to play more with the following options.
Learning to play and starting to compete – Golf NSW recognises the importance of club membership while still engaging with casual and social golfers to improve their user experience.
With this in mind, it will soon be possible to for those golfers who are interested in acquiring an official golf handicap to integrate with Golf NSW Social Golf Program. This initiative will give many social golfers the opportunity to maintain an official handicap, allow them to gain confidence in competition play, and ultimately see the value in a membership of an affiliated golf club.
Step 4: Club Membership
Many NSW Golf Clubs now offer flexible and tailored membership and packages to suit the desires and lifestyles of all golfers. Find a club near you and ask about their membership options.
Social Golf
Social play accounts for almost two-thirds of all golf participation in Australia.
With access to many NSW courses on a 'pay for play' (green fee) basis being both easy and affordable, more and more players are choosing to participate in formats outside of the traditional structured club environment.
As such, social club bookings have become an integral source of revenue for many NSW Golf clubs.
