The 2018 Queensland Men’s and Women’s Foursomes Championship was well received by all participants, experiencing a record breaking sell out event. Hosted in its sixth consecutive year at Wynnum Golf Club, the day saw 192 players swinging through 36-holes of sun and showers.
The Wynnum pairing of Justin Gaske and Kerrod Crocker claimed the Queensland Men’s Foursomes Championship, with smashing rounds of 71 -70, for a 36-hole total of 141, to grab the title from 71 groups.
“Our strong point today was definitely driving off the tee,” says Kerrod.
“The highlight of today was Justin’s chip in 9 from the front of the green.”
Impressive scoring from 14-year-old Lion Higo (Emerald Lakes) and 15-year-old Hye (Aria) Park (RACV Royal Pines) were the clear winners of the Queensland’s Women’s Foursome Championship, with rounds of 70-74, to defeat 23 groups. Lion steps up from last year’s runner up position.
“Aria [was able to] hit the ball pretty far for me, so that I could hit it close to the green for her to sink the birdie,” Lion said.
“Our putting was pretty good which got us all our birdies… Our favourite holes today were the short par-4’s.”
The competition was fierce for the men’s runner-up position with a close 36-hole score of 142 between three teams. Brilliant team work and tight concentration meant that defending champions Matthew Pitty (Oxley) and Ben Stieler (Brookwater) secured their place on a countback, from Hamish Way and David Way (Indooroopilly), and Cameron Powell and Timothy Lukin (Brisbane).
Cassie Porter (Peregian Spring) and Caitlin Campbell-Nyman (Pacific) grabbed runner-up with a score of 75-77 for a total of 152 in the women’s event.
Special mentions to Trevor Law (Redland Bay) who had a tidy ace on the par-3 16th, and Mitchell Salmond (Pacific) who signed for a superb 1 on the par-3 6th hole.
Thanks goes out to Wynnum Golf Club, for graciously hosting this fun event. The club’s professionalism and hospitality, made this event especially remarkable.
