Record field hits Adelaide for Country Week

The Grange will host round two of the 2011 Men&aposs Country Championships A record field of around 120 players will decent on Adelaide&aposs marquee sandbelt venues next week, for the staging of the 2011 Men&aposs Country Week Championships. Played in a revised format for 2011, the week opens with the two Country Championship rounds being played at Royal Adelaide and The Grange respectively on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 September. Wednesday sees the Foursome Championship, which has this year been reduced to 18 holes, played at Adelaide Shores. Players round off the week at Adelaide&aposs other sandbelt venues, with Glenelg hosting the individual stableford on Thursday 29 and Kooyonga hosting the fourball stableford on Friday 30 September. In total 79 players players have entered the Country Championships main event, with 48 playing in the Championship field (handicap limit 10) and 31 playing in the Presidents Cup (B Grade) competition (handicaps 11 and over. The field is the largest since the amalgamation men&aposs of women&aposs golf which formed Golf SA in 2008. The top 16 qualifiers from the two Championship rounds progress through to match play at Kooyonga on Thursday (round of 16 and quarter finals) and Friday (semi finals and final). Defending champion Craig Sunderland from Millicent returns to defend the title he won last year. Tim Atze and Ramon Thorne also return to defend their 2010 Foursome Championship title, although they will face some tough opposition with 16 pairs registered for both the Country Championship Foursomes (handicap limit 18) and the Vice Presidents Salver (B Grade – handicaps 19 and over) at Adelaide Shores. Glenelg will host a record 45 players in the individual stableford on Thursday and 36 pairs will tee up in the 4BBB stableford at Kooyonga on Friday.
