Recovering Zunic withdraws from US Amateur

Jordan Zunic withdrew from the 2013 U.S. Amateur on Saturday as he continues to recover from a car accident in Little Rock, Arkansas last week. Zunic, who had travelled to the Unites States close to three months ago to further his career, was a passenger in the back seat of the car, a white BMW. Also in the car were fellow Australian amateur golfers, Viraat Badhwar and Ricky Kato. The 21-year-old from Australia was replaced by Dennis Bull, of Norwalk, Iowa, the first alternate from the West Des Moines, Iowa, sectional qualifying site. Zunic won a three-man playoff with Bull and Ryan Nietfeldt with a birdie on the first hole. Bull, 31, shot rounds of 70 and 74 for a 36-hole total of 144 at Glen Oaks Country Club, and claimed the first alternate position with par on the first playoff hole. Bull, a quarterfinalist at the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, will play with Kyle Kochevar and Robert Geibel for both rounds of stroke play. The group will start from the first tee in the first round at Charles River Country Club on Monday at 7 a.m. EDT.
