Reed leads the way at Blue Lake

Victorian Heath Reed has the outright lead of the South Australian PGA Championship at Blue Lake Golf Links after Thursday&aposs first round. An impressive eight-under 59 has propelled Reed to the top of the leaderboard, overtaking New South Welshman Anthony Painter who had earlier set the course alight with a seven-under, 60. Beginning the day on the 10th, Reed fired birdies on the 11th, 12th, 15th and 17th to turn in four-under. A further five birdies had Reed at nine-under before he dropped a shot at the last following an errant tee-shot. “It was a little disappointing to finish like that, but overall I was really pleased with the way I struck the ball today.” “It&aposs nice to be leading after day one, I now have to make sure that I am there come Sunday,” he said. Tournament drawcard, Australian golf legend Peter Senior posted a three-under, 64 and sits in a tie for 13. Defending champion Victorian Tim Wise began his title defence with a steady round of one-under, 66 to sit seven shots back at the close of play, while his playing partner, 2007 New South Wales PGA Champion Scott Draper, began his tournament campaign with an even-par round.
