Royal Canberra’s Josh Reid and David McGilvray didn’t think twice about taking on the challenge of the State foursomes at Campbelltown Golf Club.
The pair from the ACT posted a one-over-par score to win the Bruce Nairn Trophy for 2016 and also picked up the Men's Club Champion of Champions trophy along the way.
“We’ve won a few club titles together, three or four at Queanbeyan and another at Royal Canberra earlier this year," McGilvray said.
Reid, 27, and McGilvray, 44, didn’t have the measure of their much younger opponents until relatively late in their round when the turning point came.
“We made a couple of bogeys in a row then we got to the par-five 13th. I got a good drive away and left Dave with about 120 metres to go. Dave only hit it 40 metres; then I hit it to 20 feet, and he made the birdie,
“It ended up getting us going,” Reid smiled.
The pair eventually won by three strokes from three groups on four-over par 74.
“It’s going to be a nice little drive back home to Canberra. It will be a bit more fun, that’s for sure,” the pair joked.
