Reigning Australian Women’s Senior Amateur champion Robyn Puckett has advanced through to the quarter finals at Gosnells Golf Club, with a 5&4 win over local Shirley Van Der Brugghen.
Puckett qualified seventh after the strokeplay rounds, and the Queenslander will face No. 2 seed Kim Burke of NSW in the quarter finals after she progressed 3&2 against Linda Urquhart.
Medallist Jacqui Morgan endured a tough Round of 16 draw, defeating WA’s Ros Fisher 3&2 on her home course.
It’s not going to get any easier for Morgan, who will face Sharon Dawson in the quarters, with the West Aussie defeating two-time champion Josie Ryan on the 20th hole.
The match will see two ranking leaders face off, with Dawson as the highest ranked West Aussie and Morgan the No. 1 ranked throughout Australia.
But if Dawson can defeat Morgan, it will be the Lake Karrinyup member’s second victory against a past champion in as many days, as she aims to become the first West Aussie to win the event in 27 years.
Today’s biggest winners will face off tomorrow morning, with No. 4 seed Helen Pascoe needing just 12 holes to advance 8&6 against Jennifer Murphy 8&6, while WA’s Glenys Ferguson defeated fellow West Aussie Jane McNamara 7&5.
New Zealander Robyn Boniface remains alive in the tournament after advancing 6&4 to face WA’s Janine Northrop tomorrow morning. The No. 3 seed is looking to create history and become the first woman from across the Tasman to win the title.
Tomorrow will be the most demanding day of the Australian Women’s Senior, with the quarter finals starting at 7:30am and allowing for a brief lunch before the semi-finals commence at 12:30pm.
