Remembering Peter Toogood

<image="1" align="left" />

In my role as Chair of Golf Tasmania I was lucky enough to meet Peter Toogood several times. It was a pleasure to be in his company. He had a measured, calm and assured manner, thoughtful and low key, seemingly not altered by his extensive golfing achievements at all.

While hosting the 50 year reunion of the 1969 Interstate Series win it was bought to everyone’s attention, by various speakers, of the contribution Peter made particularly in his role as captain, and perhaps coach! He would spend weeks practicing with a state team member who may have had an issue with a facet of their game. He gave selflessly of his time and the summary at the reunion was that it was this team spirit and dedication to each player that played a major part in the Tasmanian victory. These comments by his team mates would not come as a surprise to anyone that knew him.

On behalf of the Tasmanian golfing community I wish to express my condolences to Peter’s family, he will be fondly remembered.
