Rhodes clear in Hobart

Overnight leader Gregory Rhodes stretched his lead in the 2017 Australian Men’s Senior Amateur today.

The Victorian representative, who plays at Coomealla Golf Club, carded a four-under-par second round of 68 at Royal Hobart Golf Club to sit atop the leaderboard at four under.

The 58-year-old, who won this event in 2015, carded six birdies and two bogies to remain four strokes clear of his nearest rival, New Zealand’s Michael Barltrop at even par.

Barltrop returned a one-under-par 71 this morning on the Seven Mile Beach course that changed from calm and sunny conditions to overcast and blustery during his round.

Lester Peterson, from Bardwell Valley Golf Club in New South Wales, sits third on three over following a two-over-par afternoon round of 74 in testing conditions.

Local member Peter Shaw is the leading Tasmanian in equal 11th on nine over following a round of 78 this morning.

In the Interstate Teams event, the Victorian squad of Gordon Claney, Ian Frost, Kym Olsen and Rhodes continue to lead with an aggregate total of 442 (best three scores to count).

Victoria is followed by Western Australia in second on 457, Tasmania third on 467, Queensland and New South Wales on 468 and the Australian Capital Territory on 469.
