Catherine Robinson from Royal Melbourne has triumphed at the 2018 Silver Spoon State Final after returning a score of 38 stableford points today at the Sandhurst Club’s Champions Course.
The Silver Spoon commences with club qualifying rounds throughout the year, with winners proceeding to the State Final.
This year approximately 180 Victorian affiliated clubs participated with 115 of them attending today’s final.
The morning field hit off at 8:00am and it was Eastern’s Leanne Whitty who took out the AM field prize with a score of 37 points off a handicap of 22, nudging out Torquay’s Jeannette Langan on a countback.
Whity looked set to hang on to the lead until Robinson, one of the last to return to the clubhouse in the afternoon, managed to snatch the lead by 1.
15-marker Robinson handled the slick greens better than most and recorded an incredible front nine score of 25 points which included back-to-back birdies on holes 3 & 4.
The win sees Robinson’s name etched on the Burtta Cheney Trophy and she now has a collection of seven silver spoons as a memento.
The Sandhurst Club is to be commended for their hospitality and players were thrilled with how the course was presented for the State Final.
