Martin Rominger withstood challenging conditions at the Vietnam Masters, grabbing the lead on Thursday through a six-under 66 round as Australian Jason King finds himself just two strokes off the pace Switzerland&aposs Rominger, though, sank an eagle and five birdies against a lone bogey in his 66 at the Hanoi Phoenix Golf Resort for a flying start to the inaugural event in Vietnam. He is one-stroke ahead of Taiwan&aposs Lin Wen-hong who produced an impressive putting performance on his way to a five-under 67. Malaysia&aposs Iain Steel was amongst those in a share of third place following a 68 and he was bunched with Korea&aposs Mo Joong-kyung, Thailand&aposs Chapchai Nirat and Boonchu Ruangkit, Chang Tse-peng from Taiwan and King. “Everything went quite well. I put many shots on the fairway and I was also able to hit many shots very close to the pins. Overall, I&aposm very happy,” said Rominger whose highlight of the day was an eagle on the 12th hole. Australia&aposs other entrant, Mitchell Brown, is also still well within contention, having carded a two-under 70 on day one.
