Rookies tear it up at 2015 Final

It was an exciting finale to the 2015 Rookie Series with unbelievable scores flying left, right and centre. The morning was delayed at Spring Valley Golf Club as lightning and heavy rain prevented the first groups from heading out on the course. The heavens eventually cleared and after a delay of an hour and a half play was underway in chase for the Rookie of the Year honours for 2015.

It was a seemingly easy day for Shaye Marx in the wet conditions as he fired a scintillating four under-par 33 for the Rookie of the Year title in the boys section. Meanwhile it was young gun Jeneath Wong that captured victory in the girls section when the 11 year old came in with a very impressive 35 for the nine holes.

Ben Powell also broke par today to join Shaye and Jeneath on the podium by taking home the U11 boys title with a fine round of 35 off the stick. Shaye’s little sister Keeley also walked home victorious in the U15 girls with a round of 41.

The Order of Merit winners were also announced with the following winners:

U15 Boys: Aashish Sudarsanan – 235 points

U15 Girls: Ashni Solanki – 250 points

U11 Boys: Ben Powell – 245 points

U11 Girls: Jazy Roberts and Jeneath Wong – 250 points

The 2016 Rookie Series will kick off again in the March/April school holidays when events will be played at both Yering Meadows and Yarra Bend Golf Clubs.
