The Rookie Series – Overview
The Rookie Series for 2017 will tee off in April and there will be about 12 events conducted by Golf Victoria throughout the year and some club run events. Rookie Series event winners are invited to compete in the Rookie Series Final (in the age group that they qualify in), with the chance to become the "Rookie of the Year".
The Rookie Series encompasses 9 hole events at golf courses across Victoria, and are ideally suited to players from age 7 to 15. There will be sections for boys and girls under 9, 12 and 16, with course distances controlled accordingly. All events are modified stroke with a maximum score per hole of 8 strokes.
Series handicaps will be allocated to players competing in the Stuart Appleby Rookie Series events. The reasons for this are to allow all players within an age division to better compete, to be able to measure scores and improvement over time, and to provide benchmarks at this level of golf.
Players need to return one score in a Golf Victoria conducted Rookie Series events to be eligible to have a handicap and compete for the nett sections of events. It should be noted that this handicap cannot be used in any other events, as it is a reflection of score from forward markers, with no defined course rating. For those players that already have a Golf Australia handicap, it should be noted that the 9 hole handicap in most cases overrides the GA handicap in Rookie Series events.

2017 Rookie Series – Club Information
Clubs are encouraged to nominate 9 hole events from their existing club junior/cadet program, as part of the Rookie Series. Events include 9 hole "Club Junior Events" and also 9 hole events run by Golf Victoria.
For club events, scheduling will be entirely at the club’s discretion. Golf Victoria will also provide to the club certificates for the winners of each event.
