Rookies tackle Riverside

Breezy and overcast conditions greeted the 46 players that took to Riverside Golf Course for today’s Rookie Series event. Although the sun was out early the clouds quickly rolled in and blanketed the 9-hole course along the Maribyrnong river.

Sophie Mann notched up yet another gross victory in the under 12 girls category following her round of 41 while Ashlee Robinson claimed the handicap honours with a score of 32 in just her second Rookie event. The smooth swinging left-hander Liam Howlett edged out Eric Li on a count-back for top spot in the under 12 boys with a solid round of 36.

The under 9 boys section was fiercely contested but it was Rookie specialist Samuel Snelgar who finished on top of the podium with 36. William Li was one shot back on 37. Lan Vu found the day easy going and blitzed the field for the nett prize, firing a measly 17 shots from his 24 handicap!

After scoring her very first hole-in-one at just 6 years old a few weeks back, Arena Tran continued the success with a victory in the under 9 girls after carding 46. Emily Wei was too strong in the nett section with a round of 25.

In the under 16 categories, Noah Paterson walked home with top spot in the gross sector with 37, while Cameron McDonald took the nett prize on 32. Nicole Ang was there to accept her trophy at presentations, winning the under 16 girls class.
