Rookies tackle the Shark at Eastern

Players basked in the radiant sunshine at the Greg Norman designed Eastern Golf Club for this morning’s Stuart Appleby Rookie Series event. There were some brilliant scores returned for the day but none better than Hamish Farquharson with his round of 38 to capture the U12 boys gross title. Brian Thai walked away with the handicap prize after managing his way around the South Course for a stellar 29 nett.

Portia Hall carded a round of 51 in the U12 girls trophy for top spot and also cemented her place in the Rookie Series final. Amelia Goodwin was also solid today when she signed for a round of 32 nett for first place in the handicap sector.

It was an exciting finish in the U9 boys gross section with a three-way countback required to separate Phoenix Diaz, Sam Fedmowski and Samuel Snelgar. In the end, Sam Fedmowski prevailed for his inaugural gross title in the Rookie Series with 48.

Eight-year-old Sophie Mann backed up her strong performance at Yarra Bend last week with another fine round of 48 for the best score in the U9 girls. Clare Powell walked home with the nett trophy with 38 this morning.

Katya Adkin won the U16 girls section following her round of 47 today while Morten Hafkamp notched up back-to-back victories in the U16 boys after his tally of 42 gross.

The next Rookie Series event will be played at Oakleigh Golf Course on Saturday May 6. Places are limited so be sure to book in to avoid disappointment.
