ROUND 1 LEADERBOARD The Australian team of Breanna Elliott (VIC), Whitney Hillier (WA) and Minjee Lee (WA) are in a tie for 8th place after the opening round of the Espirito Santo Trophy at the World Amateur Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey. The trio finished with a team score of even par to put them tied with defending champions Korea and Belgium, France, Germany and Singapore, three strokes behind leaders Sweden. Royal Fremantle member Lee fired a 2-under par 70 which included 4 birdies while Elliott (Yarrawonga and Border) posted the other counting score, finishing with a 2-over par 74 a double bogey on the sixth hole her only blemish for the day. Hillier found the conditions challenging and finished with a first round 80. The Australians began their campaign on Gloria Golf Club’s New Course, chasing Australia s first Espirito Santo Trophy since 2002 and have been paired with Slovenia and Mexico in the opening two rounds. They will play the club s Old Course when the second round begins on Friday evening (AEST). Each team has two or three players and plays 72 holes of stroke play over four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team s score for the championship.
