Round 1 of the 2018 Greg Norman Junior Masters saw players swinging for their lives. The field of 200 juniors saw the course conditions take its toil with pesky, inconsistent wind constantly changing play.
Palmer Colonial played host to elite amateurs from interstate, overseas and throughout Queensland for Round 1 and the Opening Ceremony on Sunday to welcome all players and families to the week-long championship. View the Opening Ceremony video on our Facebook page.
In the Girls’ 17 years & under division, Peregian Springs GC member Cassie Porter leads the pack with a brilliant opening of 68 (five-under par 73).
In the Boys’ 17 years & under division, Wantima member Jordan Rooke holds second place with a score of 68 (72 par) with Samuel Slater of Brisbane GC close on his heels, with a score of 69.
In second place, in the Girls 15 years & under division with a score of 69, Victorian player Jeneath Wong (Metropolitan GC) sits in outright second with Justice Bosio (Caboolture GC) with one shot back.
Boys' 15 & under division tied for overall second place with Jordan Rooke and their impressive score of 69, is Ben Duncombe (jnr) of Coral Cove International GC.
The 13 years & under girls made an wonderful start at Palmer Colonial layout with Shyla Singh (Southport) and Mary Golder (Dalby GC) sharing the Round 1 lead on 79 (73 par).
In the Boys' 13 & under division, Emerald Lakes' Justin Hammett produced the lowest round of the day to hold the outright lead with a six-under 72 par score of 66. Justin also claimed the only Hole-in-one of the day, on hole 16.
Round 2 commences at 6.30am Tuesday morning with Palmer Gold Coast.

The Greg Norman Junior Masters is an Australian Boys' and Girls' Ranking Event. It is for players ages17 and under, and is played over 72-holes stroke play. This is an invite only event and is conducted by Junior Golf Queensland.
