Rounds numbers continue steady growth in September

rounds data has continued a trend of steady growth in the first month of Spring according to new data released by the Australian Golf Industry Council.

Competition rounds growth for September was 4.2% up on September 2012 figures with the Northern Territory recording a 14.2% increase – the largest of any state or territory.

Queensland recorded the strongest growth of any of the eastern states with a 7.4% increase on September 2012 while Western Australia and Tasmania recorded declines.

On a Year-to-Date basis, the national market is 5.5% up on the same 8 months last year with all states recording increases over the period.

Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory have recorded the strongest state/territory growth over that period.

Metropolitan and regional markets largely followed the national trend other than in regional South Australia.

Golf Australia CEO and AGIC Chairman Stephen Pitt said the transition into warmer seasons should help to maintain the current growth trends.

“It’s been a positive year so far and based on the current trends, we expect the number of competition rounds being played at golf clubs to continue to increase,” Pitt said.

“With the Australian tournament season now underway and the weather warming up, the recipe is right for an increased number of competition rounds of golf in the months to come.”

The Australian Golf Industry Council (AGIC) was established in late 2006 to provide a forum to help unite the industry on agreed industry wide initiatives.

Membership includes: Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association, Australian Ladies Professional Golf, Australian Sporting Goods Association, Golf Australia, Golf Management Australia, PGA of Australia and the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects.
