Registered since December 2010, Royal Queensland Golf Club is one of the oldest MYGolf Centres! With an impressive 84 participants on board, they are continuing to grow their program and introduce more juniors into a club environment. Royal Queensland s junior pennant team are also reaping the benefits of the MYGolf Program with the 2011 and 2012 teams being made up or current or past participants. The following questions have been answered by Royal Queensland s Vice Captain and MYGolf Centre Coordinator, Ralph Heading. Why do you run a junior program? Royal Queensland runs MYGolf in order to promote and develop junior golf within our club. Who runs the program? A dedicated team of people deliver the program at Royal Queensland, including Vice Captain Ralph Heading and PGA Professionals Andrew Marchbank, James Staniforth (British PGA) and Richard Gompels. This team are also assisted by the House Manager, Ken Brown. How you have found the MYGolf program and the benefits? The structure of the skills testing program forms a good basis for teaching the skills and offers clear insight into where the children can improve. Also the equipment, especially the TriGolf gear for the younger kids, has been very useful. We are now seeing benefits in our juniors from the beginners right through to the low markers as it provides instant feedback on areas of their game and where their shortcomings might be. Any tips and ideas you can give to run the program successfully? Have fun and be encouraging of the kids. Set clear safety ground rules. Engage the parents for assistance with the skills testing.
