Royal Hobart Golf Club took out division one of the Tasmanian women’s pennant finals in spectacular fashion at the weekend.
The ladies from Seven Mile Beach earned the right to contest this year’s final with a 4-1 preliminary win over the much-fancied Prospect Vale Golf Club on Sunday morning.
Royal’s Hallie Meaburn defeated Prospect Vale’s Tammy Hall 3&2 and in the process recorded her third hole-in-one on Devonport’s 140 metre par three tenth hole.
Debbie Taylor defeated Lily Caelli 2&1, Karen Bannister overcame Julie Berne by the same margin and Sally Eastwood beat Lindsay French 5&3.
Deidre Panton picked up the only win for Prospect Vale at number three defeating Zibeth Daubenton 2&1.
With their preliminary final win in hand, the Royal ladies teed up and defeated Ulverstone Golf Club 3-2 in Monday morning’s final.
Best again for Royal Hobart were Meaburn defeating Sarah Johnstone 2&1, Taylor beating Sharon Crowden 2&1 and Eastwood overcoming Karen Ashley 1up.
Ulverstone recorded victories through Rosemary Paton defeating Daubenton 1up and Dianne Woodhouse beating Karen Bannister 3&2.
Other Monday morning finals saw Thirlstane Golf Club defeat Elderslie four and a half matches to a half in the second division.
For Thirlstane, Pat Archer defeated Angela Cripps 2up, Glenda MacDonald beat Tanya Downham 2up, Liz Sumpton routed Nona Sonners 6&4 and Pat Timmerman overcame Julie Hannibal 2up.
91-year-old Betty Faulks from Elderslie Golf Club halved her number four match with Thirlstane’s Suzie Atkins.
New Town Bay and the combined Bridport and Scottsdale teams picked up the remaining third and fourth divisions respectively.
Best in the final for New Town Bay were Belinda Page, Melinda Beattie, Kristen Allen and Helen Holstein.
While Trish Nichol, Mandy Hall, Helen Davies and Lindy Lockhart were sensational for the combined Bridport and Scottsdale team.
