Rubbing shoulders with the elite!

As the 2013 MYGolfer of the Year, ten year old Amy Thomas from Victoria received a behind-the-scenes experience at the 2014 ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open. The following is her account of the weekend she spent at Victoria Golf Club.

On Saturday, as soon as we got in the Victoria Golf Club gates I was very excited already! So straight away we went into the Golf Australia hut. They gave me a MyGolf backpack and cap, with an ISPS Handa Australian Open t-shirt! The bag also came with tees, balls, wrist bands, etc. I felt so lucky!

Next, they gave us a map of the golf course and told us about it. Straight after that Mum and I went to watch Jessica Korda and Amelia Lewis tee off. They introduced themselves and we did too. We followed them through-out all eighteen holes with the inside the ropes experience (V.I.P experience) and that was great.

We also got to go into the media room where the press conferences were held. It was a quite small room with lots of chairs and cameras, I was lucky enough to be able to sit on the press conference chairs and have a photo!

On Sunday I got to have breakfast in the players’ room. Then we started to head to the MyGolf clinic where we got tips from 2 pro players and I was presented with my trophy!

Other highlights were following Cheyenne Woods and Stacy Lewis for most of their round. I went down near to the scorers hut where I received lots of signatures on my hat. I also got given a few balls.

The highlight of my weekend was getting Karrie Webb’s photo and her signed winning glove! Then we started to head over to the ceremony on the 18th green where I was involved in the winner’s presentation.

I would like to thank MyGolf and Golf Australia for providing me with such a wonderful weekend. Now I’m truly inspired to try my best in all I do!
