Ruffels defends Australian Junior Crown with final rounds of 65 & 66

Victorian Junior State team captain Ryan Ruffels matched Adam Scott’s feat of defending his Australian Junior Title, which finished yesterday under sunny skies at Kooyonga GC in Adelaide.

In a near flawless performance Ruffels streeted the field with rounds of 65 and 66 on the final day to finish 15 under par for the tournament and a huge 15 shot winner over Jason Hong from NSW. Ruffels posted 14 birdies and only one bogey for the day where he pulled his drive into the trees on the par 5 16th hole and failed to recover for his par. His morning round of 65 is a new course record at Kooyonga.

There were other strong performances from Victorians Cameron John and Matias Sanchez who tied for sixth place and Josh Hetherington who finished 18th.

The Junior Boys team now moves to Links Lady Bay for the Interstate Series, where Victoria are the number one seed. With solid performances this week, the young Vics will look to retain the national title they won last year at The Heritage.
