A total of 76 Women’s pairs competed in today’s 2016 edition of the annual Royal Women’s Hospital Fourball Metropolitan Final at Rosanna GC. The strong field of 152 players found themselves at today’s Metropolitan Final as a result of winning the club level version which is the first stage of the three stage event.
The Centenary Park duo of Vicki Mallcott & Kathryn Iredale lit up the afternoon field with the best overall score of the day, a brilliant 51 stableford points! The pair took a liking to the Rosanna layout which was in fantastic condition despite the recent wet weather. In second place within the afternoon field was Gisborne’s Louise Ball & Pat Gilchrist who recorded a solid score of 45 points.
Top honours from the morning field went to the Cheltenham pair of Pam Jowett & Jan Casey who recorded a classy 48 points after heading out early. The Cranbourne pair of Ann Henderson & Val Fowler rounded out the major prizes for this year’s Metropolitan final with a fantastic score of 46 points.
There was a countback between 5 groups on 42 points to determine which pairs were lucky enough to qualify for the State Final. All clubs across Victoria have graciously supported this event to raise funds and awareness of the great work that the Royal Women’s Hospital does. The Golf Victoria initiative to raise funds to support the Royal Women’s Hospital Pelvic Floor unit was initiated in 2006.
The top 12 from today’s Metropolitan Final will meet with the winner’s and runners up from the District Finals to contest the third and final stage (State Final) at Eastern GC on Monday 24 October.
