SA Amateur Finals – ‘too close to call’

Men's

Daniel Speirs from the Kooyonga Golf Club will face off against 2012 Champion Jack Williams in the final of the SA Amateur Championships this Sunday at Kooyonga Golf Club.

Speirs the 9th qualifier after finishing at 7-over after the 72 hole qualifying rounds, defeated former Australian Cricketer Greg Blewett in his opening match play round 3&1, before going on to defeat 1st qualifier Scott Ready on the 19th.

In the 36 hole semi final Speirs lead comfortably all day to win 8&6 against Grange player Ben Stowe.

Williams, SA medallist in 2013 and 2nd qualifier this year, defeated Louis Fuller in the opening round 4&3 and then won 1up over Anthony Murdaca in the quarter finals.

In today's semi, Williams led 1up over Heath Riches through 18 before securing a place in the final with a 5&4 victory.

In the final Williams starts favorite after solid form in recent ranking events in Tasmania and Victoria. Although, its been a big week for the Speirs family, with older brother David, the Liberal Candidate for the electorate of Bright, defeating high profile Labor incumbent Chloe Fox in the SA State Election.

As they're saying in the election…..this final is 'too close to call'.

Women's

Kristalle Blum from The Grange Golf Club has progressed through to the Women's Match Play final after two impressive wins.

After qualifing in 6th position after 36 holes of qualifying strokeplay earlier in the week, Blum defeated 14th ranked Australian Amateur from The National, Sue Wooster, on the 19th hole in the quarter-finals.

Blums next scalp was a 3&1 win in the semi-finals over 25th ranked Joanna Charlton from Metropolitan Golf Club in Victoria.

In the final, Blum who is 57th in the nation, will face Kono Matsumoto (ranked 24) from Victoria Golf Club, after Matsumoto defeated SA's number 1 player Jenny Lee on the 20th hole in the semi's.

Blum has golf in her blood, with her mother and coach being well respected ALPG & UK PGA Professional Christine Burton and her father Graham Blum a Green Keeper at The Grange Golf Club.
