SA Classic Rd 3 – Luck 5 behind, chasing Endycott

Curtis Luck from Cottesloe Golf Club in WA, fired a 4-under 68 in the third round of the Golf SA Amateur Classic, making his move up the leaderboard.

After an opening round 73, Luck has posted back to back rounds of 68, to move into third position on the leaderboard.

Luck is however, five behind leader Harrison Endycott (NSW), who fired the low round of the day, a scintillating 5-under 67 to be 12-under.

“Well realistically, Harrison is showing that he’s playing great golf at the moment, so there is nothing really but to go low, that’s all I can do. Whether that means I stand on the first tee and get a little more aggressive or stick with what I’ve been doing and hopefully hole a few more putts”. Luck said.

Endycott was understandable pretty happy with his round and to be leading the Classic with one round to play.

“Yeah look definitely, just didn’t really do anything wrong today, bogey free again and I just got it in the right position to score,” Endycott said.

“Like I mentioned yesterday, it was moving day today and it was nice to get out and make a few and stay up on top of the leaderboard, so definitely looking forward to tomorrow,” Endycott added.

Mitchell Smith from Oxley Golf Club in Queensland is placed second after a 3-under round of 69. Smith made five birdies, for the third round in a row.

“It was a bit of a struggle today I guess, coming off the high yesterday, making a lot of birdies and today they weren’t coming as easy. I wasn’t hitting it quite as good, but just grinding it out, but birdied the last, which made everything a bit better,” Smith said.

Smith is four behind Endycott and when asked about his strategy for the final round, he said he was unlikely to be holding back.

“I will probably attack a few more pins tomorrow, I’m four behind, so I’m going to have to make something up somewhere if I’m going to have a shot, so I will probably be a bit more aggressive off the tee as well” Smith added.

SA’s Heath Riches is in outright seventh at 2-under after a third round 2-over 74.

“It was a little bit tricky with the wind, there was a little more wind than we had the first two days but the course is still playing relatively easy, so I imagine there were some good scores today,” Riches said.

“I had three bogeys on the trot pretty early and then I clawed that back and then I hit a couple of bad shots when I shouldn’t have and added a couple more bogeys to the score and couldn’t get it back to red numbers unfortunately”. Riches added.

Next best South Australian is Will Somerfield (Kooyonga) at even par (ninth) followed by Sam Earl 1-over (tied 10th). Matthew Lisk (The Grange) is 2-over (tied 13th) .

Men’s Final Round kicks off at 8.00am on Thursday 24 March with the Men’s leading group Endycott, Smith and Luck teeing off at 8.40am.
