Matthew Hey & Matthew Rolton both from Thaxted Park have taken out the SA Men's Foursomes Championship, while WA duo, Glenys Ferguson (Wanneroo) & Lyn Bennett (Gosnells) have claimed the SA Women's Foursomes Championship.
Hosted by the Thaxted Park Golf Club on Sunday 28 August, the 19 pairs encountered perfect playing conditions.
In the men’s event, Hey and Rolton shared the lead thru 18 holes with David Ovens & Nick May from Highercombe with both pairs firing a 3-over first round 73.
The locals held their nerve and despite a challenge from eventual runners-up, Will Somerfield (Kooyonga) & Kieren Barratt (Thaxted Park) 74,75 they posted back to back 73’s to finish 6-over to win by three strokes.
Third place went to Sam Inglis & Joseph Hodgeson (Kooyonga) on +10 (150), while Best Nett (149) was won by Jake Munn & Thomas Haxby (Thaxted Park).
In the Women’s Championship, the travelling Western Australian duo Glenys Ferguson (Wanneroo) & Lyn Bennett carded rounds of 89, 88 (177) to win by 16 strokes ahead of Blackwood’s Gundi Holzer & Paula White.
Ferguson and Bennett are in South Australia for a week playing various SA Golf events and travelling with their husbands, who played in the men’s event. Unfortunately, they couldn’t complete the double by winning the Championship and beating their husbands, who posted scores of 88,88 to finish one ahead!
