Ben Stowe & Jack Williams both from The Grange have taken out the SA Men's Foursomes Championship while Glenelg duo Matilda Wheare and Elysia Yap have claimed the SA Women's Foursomes Championship.
Hosted by the Gawler Golf Club located in Sandy Creek at the gateway to South Australia's famous Barossa Valley on Sunday 23 August, the 19 pairs encountered perfect playing conditions.
In the men’s event, defending champions Stowe and Williams combined well to fire a 1 over 73 in round one to hold a 5 stroke lead over Billy Cawthorne (Royal Adelaide) and Liam Georgiadis (Grange) and Braeden Kelly (Glenelg) and partner Will Somerfield (Kooyonga).
With low scoring proving to be difficult, Cawthorne and Georgaids narrowed the gap in round two shooting a 77, but couldn’t catch Williams and Stowe who finished 3 strokes ahead of the pair at +8 overall after a 79 in round two.
Third place went to Kelly and Somerfield on +12 (156) while Best Nett (155) was won by Mathew Monsma and Steve Berridge (Blackwood)
In the Women’s Championship, it was all square after round one with Elysia Yap and Matilda Wheare and sisters Zoe and Rachel Taylor carding rounds of 88.
Yap and Wheare were able to fine better form in round two improving to shoot an 82 and go on to win the title by 7 strokes ahead of the Talyor sisters.
The Taylors were awarded best nett with a score of 163.
