Matias Sanchez has won the Woodlands Open Amateur & Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions at Woodlands today. A strong field contested the revamped Woodlands Open Amateur & Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions with a field of 80 players competing in the final 2016 Ivo Whitton Ranking event in fine golfing conditions.

Matias Sanchez (Royal Melbourne) was victorious in the Woodlands Open Amateur with rounds of 77 & 72 for a 36-hole total of 149 (5 over par). With majority of the field finding the going difficult, it was Sanchez who put two consistent rounds together outclassing the field by six shots. Runner Up was Ivo regular Mark Boulton who fired rounds of 77 & 78.

The course was in notable condition after only last week hosting the Victorian Amateur Championships. The quick greens were difficult for some to overcome.

Sanchez, the current Royal Melbourne Club Champion, secured the 2016 Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions with his fine scoring. Runner Up was Mark Boulton who is not only the Phillip Island Club Champion but has been successful in multiple Ivo Whitton events.

The Victorian Men’s Champion of Champions, previously played in conjunction with the Port Phillip Open Amateur, is in its first year run with the Woodlands Open Amateur. The initiative was developed to refurbish both the Woodlands Open & the Men’s Champion of Champions. The Woodlands Open Amateur was discontinued back in 1978.
