Golf Australia has announced the Golf Australia Senior Team for the 2016 Sanctuary Cove Trophy – an annual match against seniors from New Zealand. The match will be played at Royal Wellington Golf Club in New Zealand on 16-17 February 2016.
The team members are Stefan Albinski (NSW) , John Banting (WA), Gordon Claney (Vic), Ian Frost (Vic), Peter Hannah (Qld), David Limbach (NSW), Ian MacPherson (WA), Mark Pearson (NSW), Lester Peterson (NSW), Greg Rhodes (Vic), Barry Tippett (Vic) and Steve Toyne (Qld),
New Zealand have been the dominant team in recent times, winning the title on the last four occasions. Australia last held the trophy in 2011 and in 2016 is sure to put up a tough battle to bring the trophy back to Australia.
The two 12-man teams contest Foursomes and Four-ball Match Play on day one, followed by Singles Match Play on day two.
The event has been played nine times previously, with New Zealand taking a 6 – 3 lead over Australia.
The Sanctuary Cove Trophy continues to grow in popularity and although a very competitive event, the camaraderie that exists between the players from both countries makes it enjoyable on and off the course.
