Sand & Grass Greens Championship

Sunday 20 August

Mudgee’s Mark Hale and Dunedoo’s Chantell Greaves prevailed in the final round of the 2017 Sand & Grass Greens Championships to win the Men’s & Women’s events. Hale had a tough task ahead of him trailing Forbes local John Betland by one going into a final round on Betland’s home course but was able to beat Betland by two shots at Forbes to win the Championship by a single point. Greaves went into the final round equal for the lead with Coleambally’s Margaret Naseby, but was too strong and won the Women’s Championship comfortably by five points.

In the nett competitions it was Peak Hill’s Paul Friend who blitzed the men’s field by eight points from John Hockings (Grenfell) who had 70 points for 36-holes. It was a closer affair in the women’s competition with Cowra getting first and second places with Helen Moriarty beating Christine Dolbel by a single points with scores of 70 and 69 points respectively.

In the teams event it was no surprise that a Grenfell team were victorious. The Grenfell team of Denis Smith, Jan Myers, Virginia Drogemuller and Grant Simpson won the teams event convincingly with an impressive total score of 201 points, which was seven points clear of their nearest competitor.
