Schools have a blast at Emirates Australian Open

Over 300 school kids – many of whom picked up a golf club for the first time – were lucky enough to experience the magic of the 2017 Emirates Australian Open during championship week in November.

Tuesday introduced the MyGolf Kids Day to the championship for the first time, bringing smiles and activities galore.

Five local schools attended this breakthrough event, with introductory coaching provided by volunteers from Roseville Golf Club, whilst an abundance of entertainment options surrounded the course village.

The karaoke machine created a positive atmosphere for the day, while the baby farm animals, face painting marquee and balloon animals had the kids entertained for hours.

Golf wasn’t the only thing the kids were introduced to during the event, with NRL activities set up alongside the festivities to promote the sporting atmosphere of the day.

The students and teachers involved all had a fantastic time and they were excited about returning in 2018!

The same day was also magical for another 50 lucky MyGolfers, who got to spend some time with global golfing superstar and homegrown hero Jason Day.

Jason hit shots on the 17th and 18th holes of the Australian Golf Club in front of a captivated group of young golfers, and even challenged young child prodigies Isaac Riches and Ruby Kavanagh to a nearest-the-pin and putting competition. We’ll save Jason’s blushes by not revealing the result!

Another four schools came through the gates on the opening two days of play to see the players out on course and experience golf for the first time in their lives.

Chipping and full swing lessons were held in the village, with every kid taking home a gift through which to remember their first ever golfing experience.

The MyGolf interactive zone will again be open for school visits and the general public for the following upcoming tournaments:

ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth: 8-11 February 2018, Lake Karrinyup Country Club
ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open 15-18 February 2018, Kooyonga Golf Club
