Scott confident ahead of US Open

Australian Adam Scott is backing his newfound blueprint for success in golf&aposs biggest events to again to pay off at this week&aposs US Open. The Masters champion credits meticulous attention to detail and increased familiarity with courses for his recent rise. “It&aposs just about trying to soak in as much as you can,” Scott said. “I find that it&aposs easier to go (to the course) out of the tournament week … because there are so many distractions out on the course during a practice round that I don&apost think you&aposre absorbing everything the course is giving to you. “So getting rounds in beforehand I think is key, especially for Merion.” Scott is third in the world rankings and will head out with the two players ranked above him Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy – in his opening round on Thursday. “Yeah, it will be a fun week, absolutely, some energy and electricity, playing with (Woods) at any time there always is. And given the hype around this grouping and being a major there&aposs going to be – it&aposs going to be an intense couple of days,” he said. “But essentially that&aposs what we&aposre playing for. That&aposs a pairing you&aposd hope for on Sunday, also, because if you don&apost enjoy that kind of stuff it&aposs going to be tough for you to have success out here because at some point if you&aposre playing well and winning a tournament you&aposre going to have to try and beat him. “And that&aposs what you want to be out here for. That&aposs why you spend the hours and test yourself. And I&aposm looking forward to that Thursday, Friday.” Scott has not played much competitive golf so far this year, but insisted he has been practising hard and has also played several rounds at Merion in preparation for the US Open. In order to win the trophy, he will have to displace 2012 champion Webb Simpson, but the American is not among the favourites for this year&aposs title as his poor recent form has seen him miss the cut in his last six events.
