Scott falls away in Singapore

Adam Scott missed a great opportunity for a record fourth Singapore Open title today with a disappointing final round in which he twice hit water balls.

Scott began the last round of the $1 million Asian Tour tournament in the lead after coming back early this morning to complete his third round.

But the Australian closed with a three-over par 74 to finish well off the pace.

He had chipped a ball past the flag from greenside at the par-five seventh hole but remained in contention, just one shot back, until his tee ball at the par-four 15th hole went hard left and into the lake that skirts the fairway. A double bogey followed, and Scott limped into tied-ninth position behind Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng, who closed with a 67 in windy conditions at Sentosa Golf Club to grab a berth in this year's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Scott, who had previously won the Singapore Open in 2005, 2006 and 2010.
