Adam Scott has his quest for a second Stonehaven Cup trending in the right direction with a bright start to his second round of the Emirates Australian Open at The Australian Golf Club.
The world No.3 began his round with four consecutive pars from the 10th tee, then canned an eagle on the par-five 14th to kickstart the chase for his second national title after his 2009 win at nearby New South Wales.
The eagle, in perfect conditions in Sydney’s south, vaulted him up to one over par overall after a tough first-round 74 left him seven shots from the lead overnight.
Scott’s Presidents Cup teammate Brendon de Jonge, of Zimbabwe, has joined the lead at three under alongside American world No.14 Jordan Spieth and New South Welshman Aron Price at three under.
World No.1 Rory McIlroy begins his second round at midday.
All players are being given the chance to wear a black ribbon to honour the late Australian Test cricketer Phillip Hughes.
