Scott placed in elite group

Australian Adam Scott will be in elite company when he begins his assault on the US Open championship next week after it was announced on Thursday that he will be grouped with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson for the first two rounds of the tournament. Scott&aposs grouping features the pre-eminent collection of golfers at the second Major of the year as Woods and Mickelson are world No.1 and No.2 respectively while the Aussie is No.3 himself. Of the other notable threesomes released by the United States Golf Association for the competition which begins on June 12, Geoff Ogilvy, Ernie Els and Justin Rose have been placed together, Stewart Cink, Sergio Garcia and Vijay Singh will be playing partners while K.J. Choi, Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker comprise another trio. The previously mentioned four groups contain the world&aposs top 12 golfers. Other Australasians to take part in the US Open, which will be held at Torrey Pines this year, are Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley and Michael Campbell.
