Scott tunes up for US Open

Adam Scott left it late, but put the finishing touches on his US Open preparation in style in Memphis today.

The Queenslander couldn’t catch repeat St Jude Classic winner Daniel Berger at 10 under, but his closing 68, with birdies on the 14th, 16th and 17th left him T10 with a bullet on the eve of the year’s second major championship.

The same buoyant mood probably won’t apply to Matt Jones, who’d been in contention all week only to falter slightly on the last day.

The Sydneysider made two early bogeys to fall from his overnight seven-under perch, but seemed to right the ship with a birdie on the 10th to give himself a flicker of hope.

But a drowned approach shot on the 12th ended Jones’ chances as he signed for a closing 72 and a share of 18th at five under.

Agonisingly, it knocked him back to 127th in the FedEx Cup points race, two slots shy of where he needs to be to maintain his full card for next season.

Brett Drewitt capped a disappointing weekend with a closing double-bogey en route to a flat 74 that dropped him to a share of 60th at two over.

The New South Welshman is now 189th in the FedEx Cup points battle.
