Scrivener wins WA Amateur

AIS/Golf Australia National Squad member Jason Scrivener produced some outstanding golf to earn his maiden Western Australian State Amateur Championship at Cottesloe Golf Club. Scrivener took on John Martino in the Match Play final and the pair were well matched. Nothing separated the duo over the opening four holes until Scrivener began to put some light between he and Martino in the back of the opening nine holes. Scrivener won 5,6,8 and 9 to be 4-up going into the first turn. Scrivener went to 5-up after a birdie on the par 4 10th before Martino won the 11th and 13th holes to bring Scrivener&aposs lead back to three. But just as he did in the opening nine holes, Scrivener won three of the next four holes to march to a 6-up lead. Scrivener held firm in the 3rd nine- stretching his lead to 7 holes before a flurry of birdie activity from Martino on the final nine holes saw Scrivener&aposs lead cut to 2-up after the 31st holes. Consecutive birdies from the Mandurah Country Club member was enough to close it out 4&3. Scrivener&aposs National Squad team mate and fellow West Australian Matt Jager was the championship medallist. Click to visit the WA Golf Association website
