Golf Australia and the PGA of Australia are again joining forces to back an initiative to provide indigenous students from across the country the chance to compete on the big stage.
On the back of its previous success, the First Nations team will compete in the School Sport Australia 12 and under national championships event, held in Geelong later this year.
Golf Australia schools co-ordinator Shaun Hickman was proud to make the announcement during Reconciliation Week, a significant time for indigenous and all Australians.

“We are very excited to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity again to the budding indigenous golf talent across all parts of Australia,” Hickman said.
“The team that participated at last year’s event was made up of boys from all over the country from Weipa to Adelaide and Perth to Melbourne.
“Both the players and their parents who were a part of the team shared some memorable experiences and created long-lasting friendships, which I am sure will be the highlight again for this year’s team.”
The event, hosted by School Sport Australia, brings together some of the best young golfers from around the country for three days of golf and one day of educational activities.

The team will take on a new look this year, with the addition of a girls’ team.
“We are thrilled to be able to be able to grow the team by also offering the opportunity to four indigenous girls,” Hickman said.
“We hope to get as much interest as possible from potential players and ask for nominations to be submitted to be considered for the team.”
