Play is underway in the NSW Amateur Championship match play at Avondale Golf Club. Play commenced with number 1 qualifier and winner of last week’s Australian Amateur Cameron Davis, who takes on Mitch Venables. Mitch will be on a high after qualifying for the last position of the match play, having defeated 10 other players in a play-off for this last spot. A chip in birdie on the fourth extra hole cemented his position in the match play field.
Others to watch in the men’s field include the four English visitors and local Avondale members Matt Whittenberg and Harrison Endycott. This morning’s match up between young guns Justin Warren and Blake Windred also promises to produce some brilliant golf.
In the women’s matches the focus will be on the Korean ‘team’, with all seven visiting girls qualifying for the match play. NSW Stroke Play Champion So-Young Lee takes on Pennant Hills’ Paige Stubbs, while Western Australia’s Hayley Bettencourt is also in good form and will be hard to beat.
Regular updates throughout the match play will be online here.
