Senior Amateurs set for Murray River

The NSW Men’s and Women’s Senior Amateur Championships are bound for the Murray in 2019 with Murray Downs Golf & Country Club and Rich River Golf Club set to host the prestigious titles for the first time.

The Championships will get underway on March 11th with the Men’s NSW Senior Foursomes Championship over 18 holes at Murray Downs. Following the foursomes, the men will compete for the Amateur crown over three rounds of stroke play, beginning March 12th.

The Women’s Senior Amateur will take place at Rich River Golf Club beginning on May 14th, with two rounds of stroke play over two days to decide the qualifiers for the knock out match play stages, which will take part over the following three days

Over 250 golfers are expected to compete in the tournaments, with defending Champions, Sydney’s Lester Petersen and Deirdre Brander from Newcastle ready to defend their crowns.

General Manager of Golf – Golf NSW, Mr Graeme Phillipson, said the Senior Amateur Championships always attracted a strong field with many interstate and international competitors. He added the quality of the courses chosen to host the 2019 Championships would be a further inducement for golfers who were thinking of taking part.

“The Senior Amateur Championships are a highlight of the golfing year for many of the over 55 golfing fraternity.

“The number of interstate and international entries we receive is growing annually. Last year alone we had representatives from every state in Australia as well as visitors from New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia.

“Rich River and Murray Downs are outstanding courses, their reputation as championship layouts is bound to attract plenty of interest from those keen to compete,” Mr Phillipson said.
