Senior Interstate Series Wrap – Day 1

The 2015 Australian Senior Interstate Teams Series commenced today at Huntingdale for the men and Royal Melbourne for the women.

First round action teed off at 8am with the Victorian women matching up against Tasmania with the Vics securing a 4.5-0.5 victory.

Grace Daniell closed out the first match in emphatic style, winning 8&7. Teammates Julienne Soo and Olivia Kline also found themselves in form. Soo won her match 4&2 while Kline finished 2&1.

Captain Jo Charlton was down 1 through 16 holes but dug deep to finish 1-up. Similarly, Dayle Marshall pressed to square her game after going 3 holes down early on.

At 12:45pm the women returned to the course to take on NSW. It was a close contest resulting in a draw for both teams.

Julienne Soo and Grace Daniell continued their winning form with 5&4 and 3&2 respectively. Playing at no.3 Olivia Kline halved her contest while Jo Charlton and Dayle Marshall dropped their matches.

The draw leaves Victoria in 3rd place on the leader board with the toughest challenge ahead of them in their round 4 clash with 2014 champs Western Australia.

At Huntingdale, the men matched up against Queensland in the morning session. The final score of 5.5-1.5 not indicative of the closeness of the content with 4 matches being won 1-up.

Frazer Droop showed some form winning 4&3 while Ryan Ruffels, Thomas Power-Horan, David Micheluzzi and Bec Eccles all finished 1-up on their opponents. Lucas Herbert held his ground to square his content playing at no.2.

The second round saw Victoria take on South Australia. The highly anticipated top seed clash between Ryan Ruffels and Antonio Murdaca was taken out 2&1 by Murdaca who played in the US Masters earlier this month. However, Victoria went undefeated in the rest of the matches to take the contest 6-1.

A great start to kick off what hopes to be another big week of golf for Victoria.
