Held over 54 holes from Friday 30 November to Sunday 2 December and with AU$100,000 prize money, the ISPS Handa Australian Senior Open is sanctioned with the Australian PGA Legends Tour and the Asia-Pacific Champions Tour. It is open to professional and amateur golfers aged 50 years and over. Competitors play alongside an amateur partner for the first 36-holes, with the Sunday consisting of the competitors only. With the action set to heat up on the Perth layout, fans have the opportunity to support international charitable causes with a gold coin donation upon entry. In a bid to raise awareness and funds for causes close to everyone s hearts, the 2012 ISPS Handa Australian Senior Open is proud to announce charity partnerships with The Telethon Adventurers and the HANDA Foundation in Cambodia. As a not-for-profit organisation, ISPS believe that sport has the power to inspire people, create hope and transform society in every corner of the world. Hope is the key focus throughout the Senior Open with both charities using much-needed funds to benefit sick and less fortunate children in Australia and Asia. Established in 2010 by Rick Parish and former West Coast Eagle Peter Wilson, The Telethon Adventurers are a group of people dedicated to finding the cause and ultimately the cure for childhood cancer. Rick s 4 year old son Elliot touched the hearts of Western Australians as he bravely fought and eventually lost his battle with cancer in 2010. In the same year, The Adventurer s raised $920,000 in just 10 months and purchased a 3D molecular imaging machine for the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The Adventurers now have a number of influential patrons including Kerry Stokes and Fiona Stanley as well as a long list of Adventurers who conduct adventurous expeditions all over the world raising funds to benefit the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research. For the past 20 years, Dr Handa, through various organisations that he leads, has been generously supporting the development of Cambodia and it s recovery from decades of war. This support has included the formation and development of the University of Cambodia, the Sihanouk Hospital Centre of HOPE, the Future Light Orphanage of World Mate, the South East Asia Television Station, various programs of the Cambodian Red Cross and several other important initiatives. In 2012 a new NGO called The HANDA Foundation was registered in the United States, United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Cambodia. It is a non-religious, non-political, not-for-profit organisation with the mission of building hospitals and schools in various countries of the ASEAN community. Fund raising initiatives throughout the 2012 ISPS Handa Australian Senior Open include auctioning 18 holes of golf followed by dinner with Major Winner Ian Baker-Finch, silent auctions on a number of exclusive items including an electric Motocaddy buggy and a stunning pearl necklace thanks to Willie Creek Pearls.
