Seniors players from around on the country will descend on Victoria next week for the 2010 Australian Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Commonwealth Golf Club and the Australian Men’sSenior Match Play Championship at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links. The Women’s Senior Amateur Championship commences on Monday, with 36-holes stroke play, with the leading 16 players qualifying for the match play rounds of the Championship. The leading 8 players from four age flights will also qualify for their age match play rounds. The championship boasts an impressive field, with six time winner Sylvia Donohoe from NSW returning to defend her title along with last year s runner up Lyn Townsend also from NSW. They will be challenged by top ranked senior players Ros Fisher of Western Australia, Josie Ryan of Queensland and Wendy O Connell of Queensland. International players Robyn Puckett from the USA and Robin Boniface from New Zealand also join the class field. Players will enjoy a Cocktail Party on Tuesday evening with the event one of the only times the players get together in the year to enjoy the camaraderie. In the Men’sSenior Match Play the leading 32 players from the Australian Men’sSenior Ranking System qualify for the event, and the winner will be determined following five days of grueling match play competition. There are many champions in the field, however the favourite may well be defending champion Stefan Albinski from Mona Vale Golf Club in NSW. Albinski currently holds the Australian Senior Amateur title, and is the current Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Champion. Winner in 2008 Denis Dale from NSW, and 2007 winner Chris Coats from Queensland will be looking to get two Australian Match Play titles under their belt. The Championship is in its fourth year, and with a stellar field on what is undoubtedly one of Australia s great golf courses, it is sure to be thrilling to the end.
