Senior players ready for National titles

Seniors players from around the country will contest National Championships from Monday. The women will contest the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at Toowoomba Golf Club and the men will vie for the Australian Men’sSenior Match Play Championship at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links. The Women’s Senior Championship sees over 75 players contest 36-holes stroke play, with the leading 16 players qualifying for the match play rounds of the Championship. The leading 8 players from four age flights will also qualify for their age match play rounds. In its 25th year, the Women’s Senior Amateur boasts an impressive field, with 2010 Champion Robyn Puckett from the USA returning to defend her title. Six time winner Sylvia Donohoe will also head to Toowoomba, and locals Josie Ryan and Wendy O Connell also join the class field. The Men’sSenior Match Play Championship sees the leading 32 players from the Australian Men’sSenior Ranking System contest two and a half days of match play competition. Current Australian Senior Amateur Champion and Number 1 Ranked senior player Stefan Albinski from NSW is one of the favourites, with defending champion Chris Coats also sure to impress.
