Round one of the 2016 Melbourne Senior Classic got completed today at the Spring Valley Golf Club. The senior event is played over 36 holes with round two being played tomorrow morning at Woodlands Golf Club.

The 65-player field faced all sorts of weather consisting of strong winds in the early part of the round before the switching to a south westerly producing some light rain. Once the rain clouds cleared, beautiful sunny skies were felt.

In the gross, it was Mark Stanford (The National) who was extremely impressive carding a round of 71, even par. So good was Mark that he will take a five-shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round. Unfortunately for Mark, it is Gordon Claney currently in second.

The men’s nett division will be led by Richard Sheehan (Trafalgar) who carded a 69 nett. Trevor Wood (Rossdale) is a further shot back on 70 nett.

Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) & Susie Dawes (Yarrawonga) will battle for the Scratch Stableford title after respective rounds of 28 & 27 scratch stableford points. In the Stableford, it is Yarra Yarra member Christine Greenhatch leading the way with 31 points.

Final round gets underway tomorrow via an 8am multi-tee start at Woodlands.
