Seniors Rush for Gold at Eureka

 

The Eureka Senior Amateur has concluded today in sunny conditions at Buninyong Golf Club. It was a fresh start this morning for players this morning at tee off, however the sun came through and presented a beautiful day for a walk around the course.

Kym Olsen stormed home to a 7 shot win with an even par round of 72 today. The National member had a consistent round of 1 birdie, 16 pars and 1 bogey for a 36-hole total of 6 under par 138 to claim victory over Ian Frost of Rich River. Frost finished on 1 over par 145 and won runner-up honours on a count-back from local member Chris Tatt who took home the best gross prize in the 65+ category.

In the nett section it was another local member Ian Corcoran finishing on top of the leaderboard. The Buninyong member off a handicap of 6 finished with a 36-hole nett total of 140 to win on a count-back from Pakenham’s John Hoare. Ballarat member Bob Cooper won the best nett prize in the 65+ category on a count-back from Hoare.

Helen Pascoe remains the player to beat in the women’s scratch section with another title to add to her belt. The Buninyong member posted a solid 63 gross stableford points to win by 12 pts from runner-up June Tickell of Trafalgar. 

After an impressive 42 stableford points today, Tina Cowie has won the women’s stableford section with a total of 74 points. The Tambo Valley member snuck ahead of round 1 co-leader Carmel Claney of Kingston Heath by a mere shot, who also enjoyed an excellent day scoring 39 points.

The senior “circuit” moves across to Box Hill next on Friday 5 May for their 18-hole Senior Amateur event.
